wellll, yeah, but----

we want to get out of the stupid condo and its ASSociation (and stupid heat detector yearly checks ), tired of listening to my neighbors music at 3am, and that they are incapable of closing a door (they always let the door SLAM!!! shut....as our unit is all on one level and our door is cheap plastic---you can hear EVERYTHING in the hallway--whether you wish to or not )

and I want more storage space--a nice BIG basement (with added protection from flooding---------).

yep, time to get out of this place, fursure

We have fairly good neighbors here, with the exception of the smoker, but we haven't seen him in a while. I have had plenty of bad neighbors before though. And they liked to throw their car door slamming parties at all hours of the night.

I hope you do get out soon, though I keep seeing how much a house can be. Helped my parents paint this weekend for their renovation. Took forever. And I was up and down a ladder all weekend... Oh well. It was a big help to them so it was worth it.

yes houses are a lot of work, but I am planning on using stuff that wont need to be really upkept much (no house painting when you have stucco or brick--nice thing about having a mason in the family ), so looking for low or no maintenance stuff...still think a nice rock garden would be good too (hubby was a geologist in a previous ....).

still looking forward to a basement and a 2 car garage (as are my girls--miss subaru and miss toyota)....and a nice kitchen with more counter space than my bathroom.

sounds like you got your workout for the weekend too (stairs are good for some of those leg and butt muscles).

lol Rock gardens are great. They upkeep themselves and if some nasty plant sneaks through, weed killer! Also depending on where you are, insurance on a brick house would be off the charts expensive cause of earthquakes and such. Or rather, the possibility of an earthquake.

2 car garage would be awesome, but we are settling on our 1 car garage at the moment. It does alright I guess.

Definitely got a work out going up and down the ladder. Should be running today but I'm not... Probably not good. Need to get back into a workout routine after work.

By no means trying to discourage a house, it's completely worth the troubles. Just saying stuff like mowing the lawn gets old. Besides it's still silly to me to have a big green turf when you could grow fruit trees and such.

Painting does suck but it generally does not have to happen that often.

I have a husband who can do the mowing (gotta make him useful for something ) Our winters are a bit harsh for fruit trees (other than crab apples which seem to do well here....), though I would like to have a bunch of trees--I would like to have a few xmas trees so I can put lights on them at xmas, and some of the other evergreens smell really nice, and I like horse chestnut trees too....I need a big space for all those trees!

and inside painting is fine--I do have almost a masters in art so I should be able to paint a wall or ceiling (already did the place we live in now before we moved in ---).

Not too worried about earthquakes here in the midwest...and the ones we do have are either insignificant or really BIG at which point what you made you house of is irrelevant.
One car garage is fine for one car, but both of ours are getting up there in age ('97 and '02) so they complain when they are NOT in it

You should be able to find some fruit trees you can plant and get fruit. Many do better with the cold and actually NEED it.

Christmas trees would be nice to grow as well And other evergreens.

I do agree inside is better than exterior. It can still be a pain especially if you have stairs or high ceilings though. :P

For big earthquakes you need the Japanese to build you one

having lived in japan....most of their houses didnt make it thru the bigger ones either (most of the houses I lived near were built after the war--since Nagoya was flatten during it--and most were made of cheap corrugated metal for the outside and flimsy wooden panels inside--with NO insulation as they dont believe in that), now their apartment buildings and skyscrapers yeah--those they build to last.

and alas, I believe that fall has finally taken us here...the trees behind our place have started to change colors (or just drop their leaves)...the acorns on our driveway have been replaced by piles of those leaves...and the halloween candy is out at the stores (wont mention that the xmas stuff is as well--got me some new xmas lights ......) so the end (of the year) is near----dang cant believe another one is almost gone

Yeah I meant a modern Japanese building. I know the older ones didn't handle as well and have heard the stories about them being super cold in winter and hot in summer. Where did you live in Japan? I wouldn't mind doing that for awhile :P

Yeah I was in Wal-Mart the other day and saw them putting in the Christmas stuff. I walked by and said "Christmas already?!" and the employee sighed and said "I know right". Years do seem to fly by these days.

Never lived in a Japanese building before. Sure that is super surprising to you guys.

We have an '03 and an '09. The '09 gets the garage since it is nicer. The '03 is angry sometimes but it does alright. Still drives great, so that is nice.

Trees are turning here as well. Lets just get to Halloween first before we start even mentioning Christmas.

I lived in Nagoya for 2 years--the place I lived in there was built in the 70's and was not made very well (though we managed thru over 7 typhoons yearly---)...no insulation in the walls (and yes I could hear my neighbors ...not to mention the buildings were so close together I could touch the inside of the apartment next door if I so chose---) a small room a/c unit and I had to buy my own room heater (propane or gas and you have to have a window open to use them, kind of counter productive when you are trying to heat a room!). Didnt have an oven either---had to cook on my small stove top or the microwave, though I DID like the individual water heaters they used--tankless so only made hot water on demand (one in the kitchen could do boiling water in about 15 seconds)--though they only put those on the bathtub and the kitchen sink, so NO hot (or warm) water on the other sinks (eg bathroom sinks).

earliest I saw xmas decorations was on the 4th of july---they put american flags on the xmas tree----waaaaaaaaaaay toooooooooo early for my comfort!!!!

Yikes, no thanks there. I think I'll continue to live here in America. At least for a while longer.

I understand Christmas is a big deal and all, but stop. Just stop. I love Thanksgiving. Possibly more than Christmas. Good food, family, and football. Awesome.

christmas does nothing for me anylonger...its a kids holiday and I have no kids (nor do I wish to have any!) though I do like to put up the decorations, not many people left to exchange gifts with either--and most of them now ask for a list which cuts the fun out of opening gifts when you already know whats inside.

I think I like halloween more than any other holiday (and now I have halloween lights too )---could also be all the chocolate that is out around this time of year (or that my oldest sister was born on halloween)
Thanksgiving is another good holiday--I do love my turkey (one of the major foods I missed while living abroad---turkey is VERY american). Most of my family is spread out across the usa so we dont get together at all anymore...so turkey day is usually just me and hubby (and a nice turkey...with smashed potatoes, corn, homemade bread and some appetizers my hubby has chosen to make --oh and some deviled eggs )

dang cold today---they even had frost in the forecast! Too early!!! need more summer!! (though its IS supposed to be warm this week--upper 60's possible 70 for a few more days....dont want summer to end just yet).

I'm still young enough to enjoy Christmas I guess. And in a few years we will probably have kids of our own so that will be nice also. Will be more fun to watch them open gifts then to open our own.

Halloween is fun. We are going to get candy this year because people might actually come trick or treating out here. If we don't get any trick or treaters then I guess more candy for me! And my wife of course.

Thanksgiving is definitely what I am looking forward to. Can't wait. Only a month or so until it. Yeehaw!

Cold the past couple days. Though in March when it hits 50 we will all be saying how warm it is. Supposed to be 70's the next few days before hitting lower 60's again. Will enjoy the 70's while they last.

no kids here for halloween so no extra candy. No kids here so no watching them open gifts, spent years watching others open gifts--my nieces and nephews (now in their late 20's/early 30's) as well as some of my hubby's nieces...am over that now.

Turkey is still one of my favorite dinners (like bison too), so I look forward to having it--but I dont just make it for thanksgiving since the grocery has it year round here (YUM!) but making the pies and appetizers is something we only do for the holiday--too much work for just the 2 of us otherwise.

was extreeeeemely nice out today, glad I had some errands to run and got to have my window down in the car--sooooooo nice! Happy its still going to be warm tomorrow as well (no errands for tomorrow so I will open the balcony door and just enjoy the last vestiges of summer while they last).

Turkey is probably the best dinner. Can't wait to eat all of it! I have only had bison burgers once. They were actually very good. Haven't had them since though.

Has been very nice this past week. Supposed to get colder now though. Guess that is what happens when the seasons change.

But do we succeed at pleasing? I just don't know sometimes.

GW>>>>>>>>>>>>>GW2. So much better.

Can't believe it is already Sunday afternoon... Yesterday was super busy and then the wife got sick last night. So I spent the night on the couch, so not much sleep. Then we were supposed to go to the Fire game tonight with her sister and brother-in-law, but since she isn't feeling well we aren't going. So I've spent a lot of the day taking care of her. So here we are. Sunday afternoon. Crazy.
